Method
- Combine water, sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, chili flakes, and salt in a saucepan.
- Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 5–7 minutes.
- Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then add to the sauce while stirring.
- Cook until thickened and glossy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Cool completely before storing in a jar.
Notes
Adjust chili flakes for desired spice level. Sauce thickens as it cools.
