Ingredients
  

Main Sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp red chili flakes
  • 1 tsp salt
Thickening Slurry
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water

Method
 

  1. Combine water, sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, chili flakes, and salt in a saucepan.
  2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 5–7 minutes.
  3. Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then add to the sauce while stirring.
  4. Cook until thickened and glossy, about 2–3 minutes.
  5. Cool completely before storing in a jar.

Notes

Adjust chili flakes for desired spice level. Sauce thickens as it cools.
