Ingredients
  

French Toast Base
  • 1 loaf brioche bread cut into cubes
  • 2 cups strawberries sliced
  • 6 eggs large
  • 1.75 cups whole milk
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 0.33 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
Crumb Topping
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter cold
  • 2 tablespoons flour

Method
 

  1. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Layer half the bread and strawberries, then repeat with remaining bread and berries.
  3. Whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour custard over bread and gently press to soak.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  6. Top with crumb mixture and bake at 350°F for 45 to 50 minutes.

Notes

For best texture, use day-old brioche and allow the casserole to rest before serving.
