Ingredients
  

Pasta
  • 12 oz spaghetti
Marinara Sauce
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes 1 can
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil chopped
For Serving
  • Parmesan cheese grated
  • fresh basil for garnish

Equipment

  • large saucepan
  • Wooden spoon

Method
 

  1. Cook spaghetti in salted boiling water until al dente and reserve some pasta water before draining.
  2. Sauté onion in olive oil until soft, then add garlic and tomato paste.
  3. Add crushed tomatoes, seasonings, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Stir in basil and pasta water, then toss the spaghetti in the sauce.
  5. Serve hot with Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.

Notes

For deeper flavor, simmer the sauce for an additional 15 minutes before adding the pasta.
