Ingredients
  

Main Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cold, cubed
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh chives chopped
  • 1 tsp thyme leaves
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk cold
  • 1 egg
Optional Topping
  • 2 tbsp grated cheese
  • 1 tbsp milk or cream

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients, cut in butter, then stir in cheese and herbs.
  3. Add wet ingredients, form dough, shape, cut, and bake until golden.

Notes

Keep butter cold and avoid overmixing for the flakiest texture.
