Method
- Partially freeze steak for easier slicing, then cut into thin strips.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet and cook onions and peppers until soft and caramelized.
- Remove vegetables and cook steak in butter over medium-high heat until browned.
- Season steak and return vegetables to pan. Mix well and cook for 2 minutes.
- Divide mixture into portions and top with cheese slices to melt.
- Toast hoagie rolls lightly with butter.
- Fill rolls with cheesy steak mixture and spread mayonnaise if desired.
- Serve immediately while hot and melty.
