Chocolate Cake
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot brewed coffee
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
Chocolate Coffee Frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons brewed coffee
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and prepare two 8-inch cake pans.
  2. Whisk together all dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. Mix wet ingredients separately and combine with dry ingredients.
  4. Slowly stir in hot coffee until smooth.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes and cool completely.
  6. Prepare frosting by beating all frosting ingredients until fluffy.
  7. Assemble, frost, decorate, and serve.
